Kansas Lottery Notches Highest Sales Year Ever

2023 was a banner year for the Kansas Lottery, but that 'bit' into casino profits.

Executive Director Stephen Durrell met with state lawmakers Wednesday morning in Topeka. He said the lottery made more than $338 million in sales in the 2023 fiscal year, the most ever. Lottery officials believe a big part of that was the $3 billion plus jackpots Kansans did their best to win.

All four casinos saw their proceeds fall, bringing the state just over $89.5 million in 2023. Of that, a little over $8 million went into the state's problem and addicted gamblers fund.

Sports bettors in Kansas put about $1.6 billion 'into action' in 2023. With the NCAA men's basketball tournament starting this week, expect plenty of bettors to get involved in the games.
