Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond in four films, is one of the latest celebrities to get behind an online gaming site. This summer, Brosnan appeared in a commercial for Rome, Italy-based Lottomatica Group, which through a subsidiary has applied for a license to run real-money online poker in Nevada. The Silver State’s industry is legal and just months away.
Lottomatica — an operator of online and traditional lotteries, sports betting and much more in the gaming sector — currently does business in regulated markets around the world.
Here’s the spy-style commercial posted on Adland.tv:
Lottomatica owns a entity called Spielo International, which has submitted an application to provide Internet gaming systems and software to brick-and-mortar casinos in Nevada’s upcoming intrastate market. In the Mojave Desert, for now, web gaming is restricted to only poker. The subsidiary has offices around the world, including Las Vegas.
Lottomatica Group also owns Rhode Island-based GTECH, another supplier of gaming technology. Offshoot GTECH G2 controls the International Poker Network, home to a number of European-facing sites such as Mermaid Poker, Virgin Poker, Poker Heaven, Sportingbet, Bet365 and Poker Hour. Sweden-based Boss Media AB and Gibraltar-based St. Minver Ltd, also Nevada web poker applicants, run the International Poker Network for GTECH.
Brosnan joins the likes of Pam Anderson (BamPoker), Brody Jenner (RocketFrog), Kevin Pollak (Hollywood Poker) and Rafael Nadal (PokerStars) in recently endorsing online gaming.
It has been reported that over the past 50 years an estimated 25 percent of the world’s population has seen at least one James Bond film.
