Lottery Jackpots Continue to Grow, Sales Boost Proceeds for Scholarships

May 24, 2019

LITTLE ROCK – In the past 11 days the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery’s (ASL) three major draw game jackpots have grown a combined $135.1 million. Powerball® now stands at $308 million, Mega Millions® has climbed to $393 million and the Natural State Jackpot is up to $400,000.

As people start their long weekend, ASL Director Bishop Woosley reminds the public to pick up some tickets for any of the jackpots and take a chance at turning this Memorial Day into one they will never forget.

“We would love to make someone an instant millionaire this weekend,” said ASL Director Bishop Woosley. “Or winning $400,000 on the Natural State Jackpot wouldn’t be bad either.”

Lottery players can select their numbers in any of the jackpots or simply ask for a Quick Pick and let the computer select the numbers for them. The next Mega Millions drawing is tonight at 10 p.m. The Natural State Jackpot drawings this weekend will be at 8 p.m. tonight, Saturday and Monday. The next Powerball drawing will be at 9:59 p.m. Saturday.

“Draw game sales actually produce more proceeds for scholarships,” Woosley said. “And when jackpots get big, our sales go up, which means more money for scholarships.”

The lottery has raised $82.5 million for scholarships so far this fiscal year, and that’s more than $11 million over the projected budget, according to Woosley. The scholarship deadline is July 1. To apply, go online to scholarships.adhe.edu.

May is the third and final month in the lottery’s Spring Cash Giveaway promotion. Players can enter winning and non-winning Powerball tickets along with non-winning instant tickets that launched in March, April and May for a chance to win cash. The final drawing will be June 4.  Woosley said he wants to remind players that the lottery is designed as entertainment so to play for fun and to play responsibly.
