Lottery sales increase for the third consecutive year

The cumulative growth of sales in the period 2013-2017 is 4.7%. 

Madrid, June 22, 2018 - The General Shareholders' Meeting of the State Company Lotteries and Bets of the State has approved the annual accounts for the year ended December 31, 2017. These accounts indicate that in the year 2017 the State Company Lotteries and Betting of the State registered a total turnover of 8,917 million euros for the sales of the set of all its games, which represented a growth of 1.24% over the previous year

The increase in sales for that year consolidates the positive trend initiated by the company in 2013: in the last four years the accumulated growth is 4.7%. In this way the line of growth foreseen in the General State Budgets of 2017 is maintained.

Specifically, highlights the good performance of National Lottery, EuroMillions and Lototurf.

The consolidation of the economic recovery, as well as the strategy of innovation and development of its games, equipment or products in recent years has allowed the sales of lotteries to maintain an upward trend.

National lottery

The National Lottery remains the most relevant game for the public company and sales increased by more than 3.4%.Especially relevant are the results of the Thursday raffles , with an increase of 5.7%. In addition, the most important draw of the year, the Christmas Lottery , increased its sales for the fourth consecutive year: turnover grew by 3.25% and almost reached 2,760 million euros.

 

Active Games

In relation to active games, the important growth of EuroMillions stands out , which increased its sales by 5.9% and had a turnover of 1,291.6 million. This game incorporated different novelties in September 2016, among which 'El Millón' stand out, a raffle that distributes yes or yes every week a million euros only in Spain.

As for the rest of the lotuses, La Primitiva experienced a decrease of 6.23%, mainly due to the fact that the product has already reached its maturity period, so that improvements are currently being analyzed for the game. On the other hand, BonoLoto maintained its sales with respect to the previous year, with a slight decrease of 0.6%. El Gordo de la Primitiva experienced, on the other hand, a decrease of 4.3%.

For its part, the behavior produced in sports betting recorded positive data in the horse bet Lototurf, with a rise of more than 10%. The rest of the sports bets decreased: La Quiniela, 10.8%; El Quinigol, 6% and Quíntuple Plus, 14%.

On the other hand, online sales presented a significant increase of 17% over the previous year and reached 135 million euros, which is 1.52% of the total sale of Lotteries.

In short, the results of the accounts reflect the consolidation of the increase in sales of Lotteries in the last four years.
