Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill urges DOJ crackdown on $400B illegal online gambling industry

"If you’re not licensed in Louisiana, then it’s illegal gaming," Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said in a statement. "I joined my fellow attorneys general in requesting assistance from Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to address the rampant spread of offshore gaming operations across our country," she said. 

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is teaming up with other state attorneys general to urge the U.S. Department of Justice to take stronger action against illegal offshore and online gambling operations.

The coalition of 50 attorneys general warn that the lack of regulation around these activities is harming customers and negatively impacting the economy. They said illegal online gaming is projected to generate more than $400 billion annually, resulting in an estimated $4 billion loss in tax revenue for states.

A letter request to the DOJ was sent by AG Murrill and the coalition to the U.S. Attorney General Pan Bondi.

"If you’re not licensed in Louisiana, then it’s illegal gaming," AG Murrill said in a statement.  "I joined my fellow attorneys general in requesting assistance from Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to address the rampant spread of offshore gaming operations across our country," she said.

The group is calling on the Justice Department to block illegal gambling websites, halt unauthorized transactions, and seize the assets of operators running illegal platforms.
