Maryland Casinos Close Out 2021 With Second Most Successful Month in State History

The Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) has released its latest revenue report revealing that the state’s six licensed casinos generated $172.9 million during the month of December.

The latest data marks an increase of 7.86% from the previous month when casinos generated $160.3 million in revenue and sees December become the second most successful month in the history of Maryland casino gaming.

December’s figures represent an increase of over $53.5 million on the same period in 2020 although the report does note that casino were operating at limited capacity during that time.

Contributions to the state from casino gaming totaled over $71 million, a 5.1% increase on taxes paid during the previous month. Of that figure, $51.7 million went directly to the Education Trust Fund (ETF). $4.7 million more than in November.

Speaking following the release of the latest data, Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin said:

“THE COMBINATION OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND THE LAUNCH OF SPORTS WAGERING AT FIVE OF THE CASINOS DURING DECEMBER LED TO GREAT RESULTS. WE CONGRATULATE OUR CASINO PARTNERS FOR THEIR ONGOING SUCCESS.”

However, despite all licensed sports betting operators launching during December, the MLGCC has yet to release revenue data for sports wagering alone.

Maryland is one of the U.S states that also has regulated, legal online casinos.
