59 PUBLIC GAMING INTERNATIONAL • MAY/JUNE 2020 “In Iowa, the lottery has raised more than $2 billion for state causes. As that historic threshold approached, the Iowa Lottery worked with those involved in one of its most meaningful beneficiary causes to tell the story. The lottery’s team in-house produced a video package featuring two veterans discussing the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund, which receives a portion of lottery proceeds each year. Those videos have now been viewed nearly 700,000 times online. The project helped people learn about the lottery in a di›erent way. The good accomplished by lottery proceeds in Iowa makes a real di›erence in people’s lives. We believe that our videos have helped people see the lottery as an organization with heart.” Mary Neubauer, Vice President of External Relations IOWA LOTTERY “The Georgia Lottery’s mission to maximize revenues for HOPE and Pre-K is at the heart and foundation of everything that we do. We begin and end each day with Georgia’s students in mind. Last year, Georgia Lottery dollars funded over 84,000 Pre-K slots, and more than 171,000 Georgia students received lottery- funded HOPE Scholarships and Grants—enough to fill Mercedes-Benz stadium more than twice. We understand how vital these educational programs are to Georgia’s students, families and communities. We are committed to the citizens of Georgia, as we work hard every day to uphold our mission.“ Gretchen Corbin, President and CEO GEORGIA LOTTERY CORPORATION “The N.C. Education Lottery now raises more than $700 million a year to support education programs. Last year, those dollars supported 74,352 scholarships and grants to make college more a›ordable. They paid the way for 13,427 four-year-olds to attend an academic pre-school. They provided monies for every school to have the support sta› it needs and to support safe transportation to school and back. And they funded $240 million in school construction and repair projects all across our state. To the tune of $7 billion so far, North Carolina can count on the lottery to make a di›erence in education.” Mark Michalko, Executive Director NORTH CAROLINA EDUCATION LOTTERY "Fiscal Year 2019was a record-breaker inmany ways, but the one we'remost proud of is that Lottery profits contributed an all-time high of $593.1 million to the state. Lottery profits are the fourth-largest contributor to Maryland's General Fund, which provides revenue for a wide range of important state programs and services, including education, public health and safety, environmental preservation and more. We also set records for player prizes and for retailer commissions, which is a nice boost for local businesses. At the Maryland Lottery, we are pleased to do our part for the state." Gordon Medenica, Directory MARYLAND LOTTERY AND GAMING “When the Texas Lottery thinks of lotteries doing good, we immediately think of the 5.4 million students in Texas’ public schools and the more than $24.8 billion in contributions that the Texas Lottery has sent to our state’s general education fund (the Foundation School Fund) since 1997. We also think of the tangible help our players have provided to veterans across the state just by purchasing one of our $2 veterans-themed scratch tickets. Since 2009, the Texas Lottery’s contributions ($132 million to-date as of March 2020) to the Texas Veterans Commission’s Funds for Veterans’ Assistance have been distributed in the form of grants to eligible charitable organizations, local government agencies and Veterans Service Organizations that provide direct services to Texas veterans and their families.” Gary Grief, Executive Director TEXAS LOTTERY
