Virginia Lottery launches ‘Thank a Teacher’ art contest

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – Students, here is your chance to show your favorite teacher just how much they mean to you.

The Virginia Lottery, along with The Supply Room and Virginia PTA, is excited to launch the annual Thank a Teacher Art Contest.

All students in grades K-12 who are enrolled in Virginia’s public schools are encouraged and welcomed to create artwork and enter it into the contest for a chance to have their artwork appear on thank-you notes to be distributed to thousands of teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

The contest is open through Jan. 31.

Artwork may be submitted online at ThankATeacherVA.com.

Winners will be selected at three levels:

  • Elementary School
  • Middle School
  • High School

The school that each winner attends will receive $1,000 from The Supply Room and $1,000 from the Virginia Lottery.

The winning artist in each category will receive a $150 Visa® Gift Card in addition to having their artwork appear on the thank-you cards.

Last year, Andrew Gibson, a senior at Gretna High School in Pittsylvania County won in the high school category.

His artwork was among those shared on more than 30,000 digital and printed thank-you notes.

Entries for the art contest will be judged by a blue-ribbon panel of various members of the arts community in Virginia.

The winning designs will be announced in March.
