Maryland Lottery and Gaming Seeks New Deputy Director/CFO

 

    The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency is seeking a new senior executive to replace the outgoing Deputy Director/CFO, Gina Smith.  Ms. Smith has been with the Agency for 18 years and is leaving to return to the Maryland Office of Legislative Audits, where she began her career in state service.  Ms. Smith, a two-time winner of the NASPL Powers Award, will be greatly missed by all her colleagues at the Agency, for her institutional knowledge, her boundless energy, her remarkable intelligence and unmatched expertise in operational, financial and managerial functions. 

    The Agency seeks candidates who have several years of lottery and gaming expertise, with an advanced degree and CPA preferred.  The strongest candidates will have specific experience in managing:

  • All financial functions of a lottery,
  • Vendor procurement, contracts and performance,
  • Human resources,
  • Information technology,
  • Relationships with State budget, treasury, audit and controller departments,
  • Industry duties (e.g., Mega Millions and Cash4Life), and
  • Broad executive responsibilities.

     Maryland Lottery and Gaming is a high-performance lottery, ranking in the top 10 in overall per cap sales and the top three in numbers and monitor games.  In Fiscal 2019, the lottery generated a record $593 million for good causes in Maryland, from $2.2 billion in sales.  In addition, the Agency oversees the State’s six commercial casinos, which produced $717.5 million for good causes from over $1.7 billion in gross gaming revenue.  Total contributions to good causes by the Agency were over $1.3 billion in FY ’19.  See mdlottery.com and mdgaming.com for extensive background information on the Agency.
