Hong Kong Jockey Club Jockey Club named Most Attractive Employer in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Jockey Club was named the Most Attractive Employer in Hong Kong by international human resources solutions agency Randstad in its 2021 Employer Brand Research survey released today (4 June), cementing its position as an employer of choice in the city. The Club has regularly been ranked among the top five employers locally and this year topped the list with the highest score among 75 of the largest companies in Hong Kong, which is a testament to the Club’s contributions to society, good corporate reputation, financial health and COVID-19 safe work environment.

The Employer Brand Research, an independent public survey commissioned by Randstad, examines jobseekers’ and workers’ perceptions of employer brands. The 2021 edition captures changes in workforce sentiment before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 2,630 locally based employees and jobseekers between the ages of 18 and 65 were surveyed in January 2021.

The Club’s Executive Director, People and Organisational Development, Dr Lake Wang thanked the organiser and said that the Club attaches great importance to people development. “Over the past year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has made significant achievements and these are the results of our employees’ strong capability. With the rapidly changing environment and new challenges ahead, continuously investing in our employees’ capability development and growth is critical.  We will maintain our focus to build organisational strength and support our people to deliver higher performance. We hope to attract more talent to the organisation, provide them with a strong platform where they can develop their careers and grow with us together.”

While upholding public health, the Club has successfully maintained racing throughout the pandemic, enabling it to continue making significant tax payments and charity donations to the community. To date, the Club has approved over HK$1 billion for immediate relief measures and resilience building.

The Club appreciates the ongoing efforts of all its employees and its commitment to them has remained strong throughout the pandemic. To protect employee health and wellbeing, the Club has proactively implemented numerous special measures. These include supplying masks; flexible working practices; transportation allowances and shuttle bus services; regular information updates and two-way communication dialogues; and special allowances for eligible employees.  

The Club has recently launched a scheme to encourage its employees to get vaccinated, providing special leave as well as additional medical and life insurance coverage.

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the Government in combatting illegal gambling. In 2019/20, the Club contributed HK$19.9 billion in duty and profits tax and HK$0.8 billion to the Lotteries Fund. Approved charity donations were HK$4.5 billion. The Club is Hong Kong’s largest single taxpayer and one of the city’s major employers. Its Charities Trust is also one of the world’s top ten charity donors.
