NEW POWERBALL® GAME CREATES 500TH 5 OF 5 MILLIONAIRE
February 27, 2013
Wednesday’s POWERBALL drawing passed a milestone, creating the 500th millionaire at the game’s second prize level.
Since the new Powerball game launched nearly a year ago on January 15, 2012, the second prize level, Match five white ball numbers, has awarded 502 prizes of $1 million or more. In the first thirteen months, Powerball has paid out 425 prizes of $1 million in cash.
Another 77 tickets have been awarded $2 million, due to those winners selecting the Power Play option to double their prize.
“The ‘More, Bigger, Better’ enhancements made to Powerball are doing the job,” said Norm Lingle, Chairman of the Powerball Game Group and Director of the South Dakota Lottery.
The changes were designed to bring bigger jackpots, but also to create lots of new millionaires at the second prize level.”
Along with generating more millionaires, the Powerball enhancements have also resulted in an increased number of winners. With the increased sales and the improved overall odds, players are winning more money more often. Because sales have jumped up for the popular game, more money is being earned for state programs supported by the lottery.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is estimated to reach $103 Million annuity.
