To whip up excitement, the Lottery is inviting aspiring musicians statewide, from choirs and soloists to music groups and barbershop quartets, to participate in the “California Dreamin” song contest.
Participants will be vying for $5,000 and an invitation to perform at one of the official Powerball launch celebrations on April 8 in San Francisco. You can go to the California Dreamin’ song contest tab on the CA Lottery Facebook Page until March 22, 2013. You must upload a video of your best and most original rendition of the iconic song, “California Dreamin’.” Friends, family and fans will view and vote for favorites — no more than once a day — for the rest of the contest. The Lottery folks will pick the winner from the videos with the most online votes. The contest is open to California residents only, ages 18 and up.
The $2 Powerball game is played much like the popular Mega Millions. Players choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 35. Draws are at 7:59 PM every Wednesday and Saturday. The Powerball jackpot begins at $40 million and increases by at least $10 million every roll.
