GTECH ISSUES ANNUAL SOCIAL REPORT
GTECH Corporation and its Parent Company, Lottomatica Group, Release
2011 Social Report, a Complete Account of the Group’s
Social, Environmental, and Economic Performance
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (USA) – (August 14, 2012) – GTECH Corporation and its parent company, Lottomatica Group S.p.A., announced the release of the 2011 Social Report. This marks the fifth edition of the Social Report, which consists of five parts: Group Profile, Sustainability Strategy, Economic Responsibility, Social Responsibility, and Environmental Responsibility.
“In 2011, GTECH confirmed the core principles of integrity, transparent communication, and responsible gaming that have characterized the Company from the start,” said GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel. “GTECH is a world leader in the lottery industry, and, as such, recognizes its obligation to protect and assist its customers, players, retailers, and the global community.”
The Social Report demonstrates the principles of GTECH’s Responsible Gaming Program and its environmental initiative, GREEN: A GTECH Pledge. GTECH’s sustainability strategy is evident in all areas of the business, as the Company strives to balance its environmental, social, and economic impact.
Responsible Gaming Program
“As a leading lottery operator, and a provider of systems and services, GTECH’s traditional role is to deliver to its customers systems that enable players to engage in regulated, responsible gaming,” said Mr. Patel.
In 2011, GTECH continued to improve its Responsible Gaming Program, particularly in the areas of age verification and customer/retailer training. GTECH’s advanced lottery technology protects players’ security and virtually eliminates underage play.
The Company’s ongoing collaboration with the World Lottery Association, European Lotteries, and North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries help strengthen GTECH’s global best practices and ensure responsible play.
In 2011, GTECH’s corporate headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island, and GTECH Printing Corporation (GPC) in Lakeland, Florida, received ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification and WLA Security Control Standard:2006 certification. These certifications demonstrate that GTECH operates under the highest level of security, giving the Company an unparalleled position in the lottery industry.
Social Responsibility
GTECH maintains the highest level of corporate social responsibility through its community involvement initiatives. Not only does the Company give back to the community through sponsorships and donations, but GTECH employees also donate their own time and resources to nonprofit organizations worldwide.
GTECH has established meaningful partnerships with communities around the world, and GTECH honors those partnerships by helping communities respond to the unexpected. For example, GTECH’s National Response Center in Texas helped hundreds of families who were affected by the large-scale wildfires that occurred on September 4, 2011. Also, in May 2011, GTECH Missouri collected donations in an adopt-a-family initiative for children impacted by the Joplin, Missouri tornado.
The After School Advantage program is GTECH’s signature charitable initiative. GTECH provides state-of-the-art computer technology to non-profit community agencies that serve at-risk children in states where GTECH conducts business. Through its program, GTECH strives to lessen the digital divide and offer inner-city children a fun, safe, and educational environment to attend after school. During 2011, GTECH installed 19 computer labs through its After School Advantage program, bringing the total to 171 since the program’s inception in 1999.
Environmental Responsibility
In 2011, GTECH’s Coventry manufacturing facility, Providence headquarters, and GTECH Printing Corporation (GPC), received ISO 14001:2004 certification for their Environmental Management System (EMS), a series of green policies that employees understand and follow.
“GTECH actively searches for ways to motivate employees and get them involved in our Green initiatives, to continuously improve GTECH’s Environmental Management System and minimize the Company’s production of waste and pollution,” said Mr. Patel.
Through GREEN: A GTECH Pledge, GTECH and its employees have made great strides in their efforts to protect the environment. For example:
• Total solid waste removed from GTECH’s main Rhode Island facilities decreased more than 30 percent as a result of GTECH’s composting program (from 239 tons in 2010, to 167 tons in 2011); and,
• In 2011, approximately 1,425 tons of paper were recycled from GPC; and,
• The Coventry manufacturing facility reduced the amount of plastic waste that was produced from the facility in 2011. There were significant changes to the levels of plastic recycling as 15.5 tons were recycled compared to 3.9 tons in 2010 – a 300 percent increase.
