The private manager of the Illinois Lottery provided summer jobs for Chicago youth

CHICAGO, IL – August 7, 2012 – Last week, Northstar Lottery Group was recognized by one of Chicago’s most respected organizations located on the Southside of the city. Chicago Urban League acknowledged the company for its outstanding After School Advantage enrichment programs which include summer job opportunities provided to youth while school was out.

On Friday, August 3rd, Northstar Lottery Group visited Chicago Urban League where six Northstar sponsored summer interns, placed in the External Affairs and Development departments, presented their summer workload. The students have been working feverishly on marketing projects including social media updates, event planning for back to school events, and marketing outreach for e-news blasts. They are also researching Veterans outreach initiatives, amongst many other exciting tasks.

“We are so excited to have Northstar Lottery Group as a funder. By sponsoring six students for summer internships, Northstar is investing in their future, supporting them as they learn critical life skills, and making a difference in their lives,” said Andrea L. Zopp, President and CEO of Chicago Urban League.

Northstar provided summer employment opportunities as part of a determined effort to keep Chicago youth safe this summer. As it ends its first year as private manager, Northstar has contributed over $50,000 to fund summer jobs and its After School Advantage summer enrichment programs. These programs helped to impact over 500 youth in some of Chicago’s most at-risk communities.

“Northstar believes it is important to form partnerships with key groups such as the Urban League to enhance the opportunities available to young people in our community,” said Dick Devine, Chair of Northstar Lottery Group’s Board of Advisors. “We are honored to help support these children with programs that help prepare them for today’s workforce and sharpen educational skills.”

In addition to the above organizations, Northstar Lottery Group provided summer internship positions at Fellowship Community Development and Hope Presbyterian of Chicago. The company is hopeful these summer employment opportunities will further work skills amongst at risk youth, enable them to become more competitive in school and today’s job market, and help bridge the digital divide.
