Greek gambling monopoly OPAP SA has appointed economist Kostantinos Louropoulos to serve as its Chairman in place of Ioannis Spanoudakis.
According to a report from the Reuters news service, Louropoulos is set to concentrate on the stalled privatisation of the state-owned entity with the process expected to begin again as early as the autumn.
“?he election, revocation and replacement of the board of directors’ members, all come under the jurisdiction of the shareholders general meeting or the board of directors under the provision of codified law number 2190/1920, the articles of association and the code of corporate governance that the company has adopted and applied,” read a brief statement from OPAP.
“Up until today, the company has not been aware, beyond the above announcement made by the Ministry of Finance, of the Greek state's intention as one of its shareholders of the proposed procedure's implementation. Investors will be informed in due course regarding further proceedings as soon as they become known to the company's management.”
