UK National Lottery EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle tonight -guarantees to make 100 UK players millionaires in one night

The National Lottery today announced it will be creating 100 millionaires in a special, one-off draw to thank players for helping fund the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle draw will take place on the night of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games (Friday 27 July 2012) and guarantees to make 100 UK players millionaires in one night – promising to smash the world record for the most millionaires created in a single draw.

National Lottery players are contributing an amazing £2.2 billion towards the staging of the London 2012 Games, including the venues and infrastructure where Britain's athletes hope to fulfil their dreams.  They also help raise crucial funding to help change the lives of more than 1,200 athletes who have benefitted from world-class coaching and support.

A National Lottery spokesperson said, “The Opening Ceremony will be a huge night for Britain and this amazing draw is set to add to that excitement, making it truly a night to remember.  We will see 100 UK players become millionaires as the torch is lit above London – smashing the world record for the most millionaires created in one night.

“National Lottery players are playing a key role in the London 2012 Games, helping fund both the infrastructure and venues, and provide life-changing support to athletes.  This special one-off draw celebrates their role in helping bring the Games to London.”

The National Lottery has created over 2,800 millionaires or multi-millionaires since 1994 and currently holds the world record for the number of millionaires created in one draw.  The previous record was set after 25 millionaires were created in the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle draw on Christmas Eve in 2010.  This special draw will smash the existing world record, once more than 25 lucky players have come forward and received their giant cheques.

National Lottery players are contributing £2.2 billion towards the staging of the London 2012 Games, including the venues and infrastructure where Britain's athletes hope to fulfil their dreams.  In particular, National Lottery players are helping to fund five major new sports facilities that include the Olympic Stadium, a new VeloPark, Aquatics Centre, Copper Box and Hockey Centre.

Through mainstream funding, The National Lottery enables Britain's elite competitors to train as full-time professionals, and is creating an impressive junior talent programme network. From 2006 to 2013 The National Lottery is providing in excess of £310 million to support potential Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes as they prepare for London 2012 and beyond.

In the draw one very lucky ticket-holder in the UK won the entire jackpot, banking £161,653,000.
