Minnesota Lottery reports record sales surge
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -
It seems that luck is in the air for the Minnesota Lottery, which is posting record sales of $520 million.
Despite the summer shut down that cost an estimated $30 million during the 20-day lottery lockdown, the lotto bounced back to outdo the 2011 record by $16 million.
Ed Van Petten, the director of the lottery, said he expects the state will see about $123 million on profits.
So why is the lottery apparently swelling in popularity? The top two answers FOX 9 News found were:
- The economy is improving.
- It's a cheap way to have fun.
Van Petten said the sales were also bolstered by the new, $30 scratch ticket and more instant-win ticket sales
