Springfield, IL – July 20, 2012 – With summertime in full swing, Northstar Lottery Group, the private manager of the Illinois Lottery, will present the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois with a check for $10,000 towards their Summer Camp program this coming Monday at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois, Central Unit, 300 South 15th Street in Springfield, Illinois. This is part of Northstar’s summer enrichment program, intended to help keep youth safe and educated throughout the summer months.
“At Northstar we work with local communities to make sure children have a place to go this summer to continue their education and have a bit of fun,” said Marco Tasso, President and CEO of Northstar Lottery Group.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois’ Summer Camp is a fun filled eleven week program that focuses on education, sports, character, leadership, arts, fitness, recreation, health and life skills. During this summer program, students will have the benefit of attending and participating in various field trips, trivia competitions, parks, museums and movies.
“We are extremely pleased with and thankful for our partnership with the Northstar Lottery Group. Their contribution to the Boys & Girls Club has allowed our members to be exposed to experiences they might not have ever experienced. Field trips to places such as: The University of Illinois at Urbana, Taylorville’s Underground Railroad Site, Chicago’s DuSable Museum and the Science Center in St. Louis has opened up a world to these children that they never knew existed. We would not have been able to offer such an experience without Northstar’s generous gift,” said Pamela Woodson, Executive Director of Girls & Boys Clubs of Central Illinois.
This initiative is part of a statewide community investment program by Northstar Lottery Group. In addition to funds donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois, Northstar Lottery Group has opened up three computer labs throughout the state and donated over $50,000 fund summer jobs and its After School Advantage programs. Last month Northstar opened up its third summer enrichment computer lab in East St. Louis and two labs opened this winter on Chicago’s west and south sides. All three centers will be fully operational this summer providing a safe and enriching environment for children and teens in these communities.
Northstar plans on making contributions and opening additional labs in several regions throughout the state in the years ahead to maximize Northstar’s charitable giving and its commitment to education and good causes in Illinois. Visit Northstar’s website at www.northstarlottery.com for more information on After School Advantage labs and other charitable giving programs run by Northstar.
