New £1m. CI lottery announced
An announcement from the Culture and Leisure Department this morning says that the lottery will be a joint Jersey and Guernsey venture and will build on the successful £2 tickets.
But proceeds will not go to charities, as they do from the CI Christmas lottery, since under current law profits must go to the States. In Jersey proceeds will go to good causes in the island.
The limited number of tickets will have two numbers giving two chances to win per ticket.
If all tickets are sold, the first prize will be £1 million – potentially the highest lottery prize in the history of the Channel Islands.
There will also be a second prize of £100,000, 10 third prizes of £10,000, and 20 fourth prizes of £5,000.
The draw takes place on Thursday, 9 August.
Deputy Francis Quin, Chairman of the Guernsey Lottery Advisory Panel said: ‘This is very much a trial lottery to gauge the public’s interest. If the summer lottery is well supported and the magic million is reached, we can investigate a law change that could enable Guernsey Charities to benefit as they do from the Christmas Lottery.’
