A bill to legalize online casino gambling and lottery ticket sales in Delaware and broaden the availability of the state’s legal sports parlay bets is scheduled for a final vote Tuesday on the Senate floor.
The legislation passed the House last week and cleared the Senate Executive Committee on Wednesday.
House Bill 333 is projected to generate $7.75 million in new state revenues, according to the Department of Finance, by making casino games and slot machine play available through state-controlled websites. It would also allow the state to offer sports betting and Keno instant lottery games at locations such as bars and restaurants, and to sell Delaware lottery tickets online.
A representative from Scientific Games, the contractor that administers the state’s slot machine and sports betting system, told the committee that technologies exist that would allow the state to confirm the identity of online gamblers and their locations. Federal law places limitations on online gambling that crosses state lines.
Debate in the Senate committee was a replay of discussions that took place in the House, with lawmakers asking questions about the safety and security of online gambling.
