CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) joined the Illinois Lottery on Thursday in launching the newest Veterans Cash instant game at the National Able Network, a recent grant recipient of the Veterans Cash funding.

The first Veterans Cash ticket was launched in 2006. It was the first lottery game in the United States to designate 100 percent of net proceeds to veterans. Since then, Veterans Cash has awarded more than $13.3 million in grants statewide to veterans’ organizations that provide vital services, including job training, housing assistance, and post-traumatic stress disorder treatment.

“The Illinois Lottery is proud to be partnering again with the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs to support men and women who have fought for and represented our country,” Illinois Lottery Acting Director Gregory Smith said. “This gives lottery players the chance to support our veterans and to win cash prizes just by asking for the Veterans Cash instant ticket. Millions of dollars have been raised through this instant ticket to help veterans with housing, education, and training.”

Proceeds from the sale of Veterans Cash are deposited into the Illinois Veterans Assistance Fund. The IDVA uses the money to provide grants to veterans’ service providers. Some additional services provided through the Lottery game include assistance for homeless veterans, health insurance costs and disability benefits.

“The Veterans Cash lottery ticket is a critical component for our support to veterans’ organizations across the state,” Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Erica Jeffries said. “The more Veterans Cash tickets we sell, the more funding we have to support our Illinois heroes. Thanks to the Veterans Cash lottery program, we have been able to provide funding to nearly 300 organizations, totaling more than $13 million.”

Tickets for the new Veterans Cash game cost $3 and feature three top prizes of $50,000. This game is available at nearly 8,000 Illinois Lottery retail locations statewide. Veterans Cash is one of five specialty instant tickets that benefit good causes in Illinois. The others are Carolyn Adams Ticket for the Cure (breast cancer research), MS Project (Multiple Sclerosis research), Red Ribbon Cash (AIDS/HIV prevention), and Special Olympics (sports training programs).
