Oregon Lottery to launch sports betting this fall

This will be the Oregon Lottery's first entry into online sales and gameplay

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Lottery will soon introduce a new sports betting program.

The name and logo of the sportsbook were released Wednesday.

“Oregon Lottery Scoreboard” will give players 21 and over the chance to bet on nearly every professional sport, including the NFL, NBA, MLS, NWSL, MLB and NASCAR.

The development marks the Oregon Lottery’s first entry into online sales and gameplay.

Armand Rosado enjoys sports betting and uses out-of-state bookies. He told KOIN 6 News the new Scoreboard program will make sports betting more accessible to the general public.

“It’s like the day that marijuana became legal here in 2014, right? People came out of the woodwork and started doing it,” Rosado said. “If they make it legal, people will come out of the woodwork — they will go into this establishment and make a bet.”

The Oregon Lottery plans to introduce a mobile Scoreboard app.

App users will be able to load money onto the app before placing bets — similar to how the Starbucks app works.

Patrick Johnson with the Oregon Lottery told KOIN 6 News the app will be released first this fall ahead of the NFL regular season. The agency will then look into adding access at various retail locations.

The new sportsbook program will utilize “geofencing” to ensure bets are placed in the state of Oregon and not on tribal lands.
