Ohio Lottery Launches Mobile Cashing App
Over $6 million in prizes claimed through new mobile application
CLEVELAND – The Ohio Lottery made cashing winning tickets between $50 - $5,000 easy and secure with the launch of the new mobile cashing feature, available through the Ohio Lottery mobile app.
The new mobile cashing feature allows players to cash eligible winning tickets and have the winnings directly deposited to a bank account. The app feature offers a fast, secure and convenient way to get paid for prizes and eliminates the need to travel, wait in line, and fill out paperwork.
“The release of the mobile cashing feature is timely as our main cashing locations, Ohio Lottery regional offices and Ohio’s racinos, are closed due to the pandemic. The app has proven popular with customers,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald said.
Since cashing began on April 20, the app processed 7,750 claims, representing an overall cash prize value of $6,206,922. Players quickly began using the app upon launch with more than 3,500 claims in the first seven days.
The program also allows the lottery to intercept unpaid Child Support and State Debt, to date collecting $80,584 from lottery prizes paid through mobile cashing.
To use the application, users need the latest version of the Ohio Lottery mobile app. When the user scans an eligible ticket, the CASH OUT option appears to begin the process. The user must follow the prompts to set up their account, which includes entering their full name and social security number, and bank account information. Winnings are deposited into the bank account.
The initial transaction takes five to seven business days to complete as the users account information must be verified. Subsequent winnings will be deposited in one to three business days.
The Lottery has plans to add credit and debit features in the future.
