KY Senator Files Legislation To Allow Sports Betting At Racetracks

Kentucky State Senator Julian Carroll has filed a bill that would allow sports betting at racetracks and off-track betting facilities.

According to a report at KyForward, the bill (BR 155) will be considered during the next regular legislative session. However, whether or not the bill is passed in Kentucky the final decision will have to rely on the U.S. Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear a case from New Jersey challenging the law that prohibits sports wagering nationwide.

“It is important that the General Assembly acts now to create regulations in anticipation of a ruling by the Supreme Court,” Carroll told KyForward.

“If the Supreme Court strikes down PASPA (the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act), sports wagering will be legal in Kentucky despite this bill. This bill regulates an industry that I believe is coming to Kentucky. We should take advantage of this opportunity while safeguarding our citizens.”
