State police and the Louisiana Gaming Commission are working out final details for Online sports betting

Online sports betting not ready in Louisiana for first week of NFL playoffs

State leaders had hoped online sports betting would be up and running by this weekend, just in time for the NFL playoffs, but that isn't going to happen.

That's because state police and the Louisiana Gaming Commission are still working out some final details.

Almost every parish in the New Orleans area approved online sports betting by using computers, laptops and cellphones.

Airwaves have been filled with companies advertising their product.

In a written statement, Ronnie Johns of the Louisiana Gaming Control board said:

"We do not have a definite rollout date. State police continues to do their compliance and background work along with making sure the technology is working properly. Without a recommendation from state police I cannot issue any mobile betting licenses. We are working overtime to get there but it's complicated. We will roll it out when we are sure that's it's working properly. Not only is that a safeguard for the casino industry but also for the sports betting customer."
