NYS Gaming Commission to discuss sports betting regulations next week

January 24, 2019 02:39 PM

ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) -- We'll soon get a look at how sports betting could be regulated in New York.

Despite a ruling in May 2018 by the Supreme Court permitting states to implement sports gambling, it still isn't allowed in the state.

The New York State Gaming Commission has the power to set the rules for how it would work. The Gaming Commission is expected to discuss sports bettings at its meeting on Monday.

If the regulations are finalized, there will be a 60-day comment period before a vote takes place on the final rules so legal sports betting could possibly launch in May.

Regulations would allow sports betting to take place at four state-run casinos including del Lago Resort and Casino in Seneca County.

Last summer, News10NBC went to check out one of the first sportsbooks to open near the New York/New Jersey border where fans put millions of dollars down on games.
