Camelot Retail Director to leave in the spring

Duncan Malyon to join Arla Foods as Commercial Director after nearly a decade with Camelot

Camelot UK, operator of the National Lottery, today announced that its Retail Director Duncan Malyon will be stepping down from his role in April after nearly a decade with the company.

Duncan joined Camelot as Sales Director in April 2009, and, in this capacity, he has been responsible for developing and implementing Camelot’s retail strategy and business plans. During his time at the company, he has overseen growth in National Lottery retail sales of over 15% – growing annual in-store sales to over £5 billion. Duncan also managed the successful expansion of Camelot’s retail estate, taking it from 27,500 outlets to over 45,000 – greatly improving consumer access to The National Lottery across the whole of the UK.

In addition to working for Camelot UK, Duncan spent two years based in Chicago as Senior Vice President North America for Camelot’s sister company, Camelot Global, where he was responsible for leading all elements of Camelot's lottery business in North America. Upon his return to the UK in 2017, Duncan was appointed Retail Director and was tasked with delivering the retail elements of Camelot’s wide-ranging strategic review. Since then, the company has committed to investing £20 million in a range of initiatives to improve retailer engagement and support – including a significant increase in the number of face-to-face visits made to outlets.

Announcing the news, Camelot CEO Nigel Railton said: “In Duncan, Arla Foods is getting a proven commercial leader with a wealth of experience. Duncan has been instrumental in overseeing the retail components of our strategic plan and has done an excellent job of laying strong, solid foundations to ensure we continue to deliver a first-class experience for National Lottery retail players, as well as for our tens of thousands of retail partners. Although we’re all extremely sorry to see him go, this is a fantastic opportunity for Duncan – and is testament to the calibre of talent we have at Camelot.”

Duncan Malyon commented: “I’m sad to be leaving, as Camelot is a fantastic business with some exciting times ahead. However, I’m delighted to be pursuing this incredible opportunity with Arla Foods. I’ve loved working at Camelot for the last decade, and I feel confident that I’m leaving the Retail Team –and the business as a whole – in a great place. I’ll be watching out for Camelot's successes, which I know will continue well into the future. Thanks to everyone that I’ve worked with – it’s been a great experience, as well as great fun."

Prior to joining Camelot, Duncan held senior and directorial sales and customer service roles with Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods and Molson Coors. Arrangements to replace Duncan will be confirmed in due course.
