Switzerland: Casino Lugano And Casino du Lac Granted Swiss iGaming Licence

The online casino market in Switzerland will soon become richer with two new gaming platforms. The Swiss Federal Council (Bundesrat) declared on Wednesday that the right to add online casino gaming to its product mix has been granted to Casino Lugano and the Casino du Lac Meyrin in Geneva.

But, this just places brands at the starting line; they are required to receive the Federal Casino Commission’s approval before they can launch. Until each may start operating, the licence must be ratified by the Eidgenössische Spielbankenkommission (ESBK), the federal gambling regulator for the region.

These operators are the first to have earned online approval outside German-speaking cantons of the country. They are also the sixth and seventh online platforms which have been given entry to the Swiss gaming industry.

Casino du Lac is operated by French company Groupe Partouche, which in January signed a Swiss deal with Evolution Gaming, a live casino specialist. Just last week, the company signed a deal with iSoftBet for game content.

Casino Lugano is jointly owned by Casinos Austria International – now part of the Sazka Group – which holds a 29% stake in the company, and Lugano Municipality, which holds a 67% stake. Private owners own the remaining 4%.
