Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission begins drafting sports betting rules

Once new sports betting venues are completed, there's still one thing that has to be done before any bets are taken: rules need to be set.

That's the task facing the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission over the next two months.

Brian Ohorilko, an administrator with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, says they have already started drafting the new rules. "The draft rules are in place, and we're still working through some of the details in those, and so the goal is to have those rules published here in the next few weeks."

A hearing on the draft rules is set for July 11th. They could be adopted at a special meeting July 30th.

That would give casinos about a month to make arrangements before the start of the football season at the end of August.
