Macau casinos have extended their 14-month winning streak by increasing September revenue by 16.1 percent. October looks promising, as well, with the Golden Week national holiday concluding this weekend.

The extended holiday period is expected to bring significant visitor traffic into the southern Chinese territory, now the world largest gambling hub.

Macau, a former Portuguese colony and now a special administrative region, is the only place in China offering legal casino gambling. Government data released this week reveals monthly gambling revenue was 21.4 billion patacas  ($2.66 billion U.S.) in September, within analyst expectations of growth between 11 to 17 percent.

September was impacted by two destructive and disruptive August typhoons. Some casinos closed, however, the major casino/resorts on Macau’s Las Vegas style Cotai strip were left relatively unaffected.
