Belgium: Record year for the National Lottery

"We had a record year," says Jannie. Haek, CEO of the National Lottery presenting the results of the public company in 2018. "Despite the liberalization of the sector in 2011, we are experiencing sustainable growth that demonstrates the confidence that consumers have in the Lottery." Jannie Haek says he is "proud" of the results earned in a very open market, not regulated enough and where private competitors grow by 1 billion euros per year.

Record year for the National Lottery Despite increasing competition, bets have increased by another 4%. The new Lotto is no stranger to it.

1.327 billion euros in bets (+ 4%), nearly 80 million winners (+ 15%), 910 million redistributed gains (+ 5.1%) ... " We had a record year," says Jannie. Haek, CEO of the National Lottery presenting the results of the public company in 2018. "Despite the liberalization of the sector in 2011, we are experiencing sustainable growth that demonstrates the confidence that consumers have in the Lottery."  Jannie Haek says he is "proud" of the results earned in a very open market, not regulated enough and where private competitors grow by 1 billion euros per year, according to him.

This result is largely explained by the new Lotto , according to the CFO Jean-Nicolas David. In decline, this one has been relifté. "The cost of a grid went from 1 to 1.25 euros, but we redistributed this increase to the players." In fact, Lotto's earnings rose from 196 to 221 million, an increase of 12.5%. The number of winners has more than doubled to 25 million. The Lotto now accounts for 32% of sales, 430 million bets.

EuroMillions weighs the majority of sales (38%) with 501 million bets. It has generated more than 15 million winners. The scratch games have recorded the best year of their history with a turnover of nearly 300 million. As for sports betting, the Lottery is still silent about their performance, competition requires, but indicates that the World Cup football has supported the activity.

On the commercial network side, physical channels (7,232 points of sale, or 82.2%) saw their sales rise by a modest 1.6% to the benefit of digital, which climbed 19% to 218 million. Despite the number of closures on the rise, bookstores remain the main sales channel . But the erosion of this network (2,602 points of sale) pushed the Lottery to diversify its park. Nearly 2,200 grocery stores (mini-markets ...) today distribute its products, as well as 1,202 service stations, 662 post offices, etc. < "Despite the liberalization of the sector in 2011, we are experiencing sustainable growth that dismantle the trust that consumers have in the Lottery. "

The year that begins will see the realization of a project deemed important by the National Lottery. Next summer, it will open Place De Brouckère, in Brussels , its 4th own point of sale , after those of Liège Antwerp and Ghent. Particularity, the place will serve as showcase for the Lottery . Consumers will be able to find out what the stakes of the players are affected (320 million are allocated to good causes, including the monopoly rent paid to the State, Ed) and the draws of the games will be made in public.

Finally, the future partner of Scooore in the development of sports betting should be known by the end of the current quarter. It is very ingenious for the production of "Bohemian Rhapsody" to have chosen an actor like Rami Malek. Because if he is little known to the general public and presumably Queen's fans, he slipped into the skin of the legendary singer with impressive ease. Malek has also received the award for best actor in a Golden Globes drama for his role in "Bohemian Rhapsody".
