Camelot unveils new Set For Life annuity game

Camelot UK Lotteries has unveiled details of a new draw-based annuity game that offers UK players the chance of winning £10,000 (€11,100/$12,800) a month for the next 30 years.

Set For Life will launch on March 18, with tickets - priced at £1.50 each - to go on sale via the National Lottery’s website, mobile app and official retail outlets from March 15.

Players will pick five main numbers from one to 47 and a Life Ball, numbered between one and 10, with those matching all five main numbers and the Life Ball winning the top prize.

Camelot estimates the odds of winning the £10,000 a month for 30 years main prize at 15,339,390 to one. Draws will take place every Monday and Thursday.

The National Lottery operator plans to promote the new game through an advertising campaign, which will be rolled out over the coming weeks.

“Annuity games really appeal to a growing number of people who like the idea of winning a prize paid out in regular instalments over the long term, and are very successful in other countries," Camelot chief executive Nigel Railton said.

“We think that Set For Life will be just as popular here in the UK – it will offer National Lottery players something completely new and meet a different set of consumer needs, especially among younger people.”

Camelot first announced plans to introduce a new lottery game in September last year as part of a wider overhaul of its product offering to boost its appeal to players. Other changes also included altering the prize structure for its flagship Lotto game.

This follows a wide-ranging strategic review of the business, conducted to safeguard funding generated for good causes through its games. Early efforts taken as part of this initiative helped Camelot report a year-on-year rise in National Lottery sales to £6.95bn in its 2017-18 financial year, including record digital sales of £1.65bn.

“We’ve now got a mix of compelling draw-based games that suits all tastes, play styles and pockets," Railton added. "That’s vital for The National Lottery’s long-term health – and will help to ensure that, in the years to come, we continue to deliver even more for our players and the millions of people for whom National Lottery funding is so crucial.”

The launch comes ahead of the National Lottery’s 25th anniversary in November.
