Illinois new lottery game to help families of fallen police officers

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A new lottery game will benefit police officers and their families.

Governor Bruce Rauner signed a bill Monday creating a new scratcher game to fund police memorials and the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

"Our police officers are our heroes. They put their safety, they put their lives, on the line every day to keep the people of Illinois safe,” Rauner said. “Our police officers deserve our utmost support and respect and encouragement in their challenging profession.”

Money from the scratcher game will also help families of severely injured police officers.

Tickets for the new game are expected to go on sale Jan. 1.
