COLUMBIA, SC (July 16, 2018) – The South Carolina Education Lottery reports record proceeds raised to support education this year. The transfer of $434.8 million for Fiscal Year 2018 was completed last week. This surpasses the previous record by almost $30 million and exceeds the FY 2017 transfer by more than $34 million.

The continued popularity of instant “scratch-off” tickets and increased interest in “local” draw games like Pick 3, Pick 4, and Palmetto Cash 5, as well as jackpot runs for Powerball® and Mega Millions® were factors that contributed to record funds earned for education.

Last month, on June 14, the Lottery marked another very significant milestone in supporting education as cumulative proceeds since the 2002 start-up exceeded $5 BILLION.

“We are grateful to our loyal players, hardworking retailers and dedicated staff whose contributions have created opportunities for so many deserving South Carolinians. The Lottery will keep the momentum going and continue to raise funds for education in a responsible manner,” the Lottery’s Executive Director Hogan Brown said.

South Carolina Education Lottery proceeds are deposited into the Education Lottery Account, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of higher education scholarships and grants, K-12 public education programs and community education programs in our state.
