If you like playing the Colorado Lottery, or playing in the Colorado outdoors, here’s some good news: The lottery program that helps financially support the state’s parks and open spaces, among other things, has been renewed through 2049.
Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the lottery's reauthorization, Senate Bill 18-066, into law Monday, according to a Colorado Lottery news release.
“The Colorado Lottery is the only lottery in the nation that commits nearly all of its yearly proceeds to outdoor recreation or habitat and wildlife conservation,” Michael Hartman, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue, said in the news release.
In the past five fiscal years, the Colorado Lottery has distributed more than $670 million to its four beneficiaries: the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF), Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program, according to the release. Lottery funds have been used in support of trails, rivers, land protection efforts and other programs.
