ARIZONA LOTTERY SETS NEW SALES, TRANSFERS AND COMMISSIONS RECORDS

Players in 2021 purchase more than $1.4 billion in tickets; Retailers earn $98.2 million!

– The audited numbers are in and the Arizona Lottery is proud to announce its biggest win ever for the State of Arizona: a third consecutive record-breaking fiscal year, with combined sales from instant-win and draw games totaling more than $1.4 billion! The Arizona Lottery's 2021 fiscal year ended on June 30, 2021.

Looking at audited transfer data, almost $288 million of that will benefit more than a dozen vital programs and services including:

  • Over $22.2 million to Healthy Arizona, through the Arizona Department of Health Services, to provide vital assistance to low-income Arizona families so they can eat well and remain healthy.
  • $3.5 million to the Arizona Competes Fund, through the Arizona Commerce Authority, to foster economic growth across the state, and to attract new business while helping current companies to thrive here.
  • $1 million to the Arizona Department of Economic Security, with a significant portion (about 1/3) going to the Central Arizona Shelter System (CASS) to combat homelessness and mitigate COVID-19’s dangers to this especially vulnerable population.

“The Arizona Lottery and our entire network of valued retailers are proud to help provide the lifeline that so many vulnerable Arizonans depend upon every day, and to assist businesses across Arizona stay and grow, preserving and creating the jobs that are driving our economy forward,” Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar said. “For 40 years now, Arizona Lottery ticket sales have generated hundreds of millions of dollars every year – totaling over $4.7 billion (more than $1.3 billion under Governor Doug Ducey’s administration) - to fund programs that are providing critical services to our most at-risk citizens, growing our economy, sustaining higher education infrastructure, and helping to protect our iconic wildlife and landscapes.”

Additionally, Lottery sales generated more than $98.2 million in retailer commissions across the state and paid out almost $978 million in prizes, helping to drive our economy and bolster retailer revenues.
