Kentucky's vaccine lottery offers $1 million, full-ride scholarships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Getting a vaccine in Kentucky could make you a millionaire.

On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced new incentives to encourage people around the state to the the COVID-19 vaccine.

It's called "Shot at a Million."

Three adults will get the chance to win $1 million. Fifteen kids ages 12-17 will win full rides to a public Kentucky college, university, technical or trade school.

This giveaway applies to anyone who has received at least one shot.

Winners will be announced July 2, July 30 and Aug. 27. The actual drawing is the day before. Winners will be contacted via the contact information provided on the entry form.

Only one entry per person will be accepted, and each entry is eligible for all future drawings. Winners will be removed from eligibility for future drawings.

People who are vaccinated in another state, but live in Kentucky, are also eligible.

The vaccinations will be confirmed by the Kentucky Department for Public Health. When you sign up, you give them to access your vaccination records. You may also be asked to provide your vaccination card for verification.

The lottery is very similar to the "Vax-a-Million" lottery in Ohio, which Beshear noted was effective when he hinted at Kentucky incentives a couple of weeks ago.

As of June 3, 2,061, 664 Kentuckians have received at least one vaccine shot. Click here for more vaccine info.

Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Mary Harville said in a statement that "we hope that by literally injecting a little fun into the process, more people will get vaccinated."

These coupons can be redeemed at any Kentucky Lottery retailer through June 1, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear hopes this incentive will be what every Kentucky resident needs to get a vaccine.

"Helping keep our Kentucky communities safe and a free chance at winning hundreds of thousands of dollars is a win-win for everyone involved," he said in a statement.
