The bilingual Sr. Communications Counsel reports directly to the Director, Communications, they will have the ability to use strategy and critical thinking to provide communications planning and advice to the business. They will also support corporate reputation through the development and delivery of integrated communications, media relations, proactive communications and stakeholder relations strategies.  Being part of a small but efficient cross-functional team, they will be able to perform a variety of roles from key message development, issues management and winners communications to more complex strategy and media relations.

The incumbent will be responsible for the company’s official languages standard and will work with business owners as required. He/she will also work with the office of the New Brunswick Official Languages Commissioner when need be to address any queries.

Fluent bilingualism (written and oral) is essential for this role.


Strategic communications advice and counsel: Provide strategic communications counsel to internal clients; develop and execute strategic communications plans for projects and initiatives.

Manage complex strategies: Provide guidance to the business by engaging business owners and team members to analyze the initiatives/projects and develop communications strategies which create positive outcomes for Atlantic Lottery.

Media relations: Work with a team to execute media relations strategies (proactive media) and act as a spokesperson where appropriate in both official languages.

Media relationship strategy:  Lead the revision of the strategy and execute with team.

Official languages advocacy: Work as a consultant with all business units to ensure that consideration of official languages compliance is built into programs, products and other initiatives. Writing and adapting communications outputs in French as required.

Proactive communications: Develop proactive communications strategies that support corporate reputation and generate positive media coverage. In this regard, the incumbent will be the primary responsible for the Atlantic Lottery Newsroom, including content creation.

Multi-stakeholder based strategic communications planning: Work with the Public Affairs department to develop and execute multi-stakeholder based strategic communications plans.

Measurement: Work with the team to assess communications effectiveness by ensuring strategies are measured and dashboard targets are tracked.

Winners communications: Provide support to the winners team on media relations and proactive communications for large tier wins as required.


Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or equivalent work experience.

Bilingualism in English and French is a mandatory for this position (written and verbal).

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior communications role.

Demonstrated competencies in media relations and strategic communications.

Client focused; works well independently and has strong organizational skills.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft suite of services.
